thepraandClaude Opus 5.5 6fccb6fe35 P7: downvotes go out, and feeds are read through the server's reader
Build / Build (push) Successful in 8m45s
Deploy / privapub.thepra.dev (push) Successful in 9m0s
Votes out. A persona's downvote is a Dislike (POST /api/v1/statuses/:id/downvote and /undownvote, the viewer's own as
privapub.votes.downvoted). One vote a post: a changed vote is sent as the new vote alone, as Lemmy sends one, since an
Undo of the old one beside it could arrive after it and take the new one away; Undo goes only when a vote is taken back.
A vote on a post in a remote community goes to the community, which counts it, and to the author only when on another
server: one copy a server, since PieFed drops a second copy of an activity it has just seen. Mbin keeps a favourite
apart from a vote, so there a favourite stays after a switch to a downvote.

Feeds followed (owner decision 2026-10-07: through the server). Following a feed (Lemmy's multi-community, PieFed's feed)
keeps a FeedSubscription for the persona and nothing else; the new Service privapub_feeds (LocalActorKind.Reader,
reserved by migration _017) follows every community of the feeds read here, reconciled when a persona follows or leaves
one, when a feed's list is read again (kept as it was when it cannot be read) and every six hours. Its Following rows
carry FollowerKind, so nobody's home gets what it brings in and its unanswered follows are sent again as its own. The
persona reads GET /api/v1/timelines/feed/:id (the feed's threads, ours included) and lists its feeds at GET /api/v1/feeds.

Checked in the pasture, every scenario: 873 pass. The 14 failures are Hubzilla's (identical on the previous commit:
Hubzilla no longer answers a follow in this pasture since its restore) and two activities Smithereen never sent;
followsync passes once the pasture's restore is older than the 14-day pause. Live: alice's downvotes count as downvotes
on Lemmy 1.0 and PieFed, replacing her upvote; Lemmy 1.0 and PieFed take privapub_feeds' follows and their threads reach
the feed timelines.

thepraandClaude Opus 5.5 3ca29603ed The media proxy is bounded
Anyone could mint signed proxy URLs (a remote account changes its icon, an anonymous lookup returns the URL), and each
anonymous request held up to 40 MB in memory; the cache grew without bound between hourly trims; two clients asking
for the same new file downloaded it twice and wrote over each other in place, so a reader could get half a file with a
7-day cache header; a file over the limit was downloaded twice on every request; a failed fetch, a 404, was cached by
browsers for a week; cached media of a server suspended later were still served, and RejectMedia skipped avatars,
emoji, covers, video variants, link cards and remote edits; /clientapi/group/members returned remote pictures raw.

Now a download is shared by everyone asking at once, streamed into a .part file and renamed into place
(FederationHttp.DownloadMedia copies bounded, never into memory), at most eight at a time; a file too big to cache is
remembered for an hour and only streamed, a failure for five minutes; the cache's size is counted as it grows and
trimmed as soon as it passes the cap; a cached file is opened before it is answered; browsers may cache only a
success; nothing of a suspended server, or of one whose media are rejected, is proxied (everything remote a client
sees goes through the proxy, so that covers every kind), and blocking one purges its cache; the proxy has its own rate
limit per client address; group members' pictures are proxied; the proxy's key is loaded once, the oldest if two
were made. This changes what PrivaPub serves its clients, not what it sends to other servers.

Tests: clients asking at once share one download, a failure isn't cached by browsers, an over-limit file is fetched
three times for two requests instead of four, a blocked server's media are refused and its cache purged.

thepraandClaude Opus 5.5 bb680e8cb8 A file lives exactly as long as something holds it
Deleting a post, editing media out, replacing an avatar or a header, and removing a whole root deleted no file: every
one stayed on disk and publicly served from /media/files with a year-long immutable cache, its row orphaned. Now every
upload is a row, profile pictures too (Kind avatar or header, ProfileOfAvatarId), and each of those acts trashes what
it held, as does an upload never posted for a day and a dropped scheduled post. A trashed row is marked in one
conditional update (an upload attached meanwhile is left alone), its files move into media-trash, beside the media
root and outside what /media/files serves, and the janitor deletes them a day later. Nothing is deleted for looking
unused.

Along the way: a profile picture that isn't an image, or can't be read, answers 422 instead of being silently ignored
with a 200; a removed root's scheduled posts are dropped, so nothing of it publishes later; media rows get indexes
(they had none), and the janitor's first pass comes five minutes after boot instead of an hour.

`PrivaPub admin media audit [--fix]` compares the disk with the database. With --fix (as www-data) it gives the
pictures personas show today a row, and trashes media of deleted posts or personas, rows whose files are missing, and
files nothing holds: the leftovers of every deletion until now. MediaLifecycleTests covers each act, that the trash is
never served, and the audit.

thepraandClaude Opus 5.5 9ab87b2779 Personas prove what goes to relays; the server says what it reads
FEP-521a and FEP-8b32. Every persona has an Ed25519 key of its own (Avatar.SigningKey; migration 014 gives the earlier
ones theirs), named in its actor's assertionMethod as a Multikey, the terms defined in the actor's own context. A
persona's activity going to a relay carries an eddsa-jcs-2022 proof (JSON canonicalised by RFC 8785, Jcs), so what
Activity-Relay forwards reaches Mastodon, which verifies it with its own code. Nothing else carries one: Mitra takes a
proof over the HTTP signature and refuses one by a key it has not read, without reading the actor again. Received: an
actor's own Multikeys are kept, and a forwarded activity whose proof one of them verifies is taken as it came instead of
being read again from its origin.

Discovery: WebFinger for the server's origin links its instance actor (FEP-d556), NodeInfo links it as the application
actor (FEP-2677), and actors name RFC 9421 under implements (FEP-844e).

Checked live: relay 16 (Activity-Relay's forward of alice's post reaches Mastodon), Mitra, GoToSocial and Mastodon
unchanged (165 in all).

thepraandClaude Opus 5.5 1265611f9e A group's owner sees its members and requests, declines and removes
/clientapi/group had no way to see who is in a group or asks to join it,
so a circle's owner could not answer a request from elsewhere. Now:
- GET /clientapi/group/members: the members (local and remote, with their
  role) and the pending requests, for the group's owner and moderators
  only;
- POST /clientapi/group/reject: declines a request, telling the asker's
  server with a Reject of its Follow;
- POST /clientapi/group/remove: takes a member out (never the owner): a
  persona here stops following the group, one elsewhere gets a Reject of
  its Follow, as Mastodon removes a follower.

thepraandClaude Opus 5.5 7bfd7ce285 Followed hashtags, and a tag's week of use
tags/:name shows the tag's last seven days in public posts PrivaPub holds
(uses and authors, as Mastodon gives them) and whether the persona follows
it; follow, unfollow and followed_tags replace the stubs. A public post that
is neither a boost nor a reply comes, as it arrives, to the homes of those
following one of its tags. Nothing is fetched for a followed tag and no
other server hears of it. Posts are indexed by tag.

thepraandClaude Opus 5.5 5b3e456e09 Filters: words and posts a persona would rather not see
Mastodon's v2 filters replace the empty stubs: a filter's title, contexts,
action (warn, hide, blur) and expiry, its keywords (whole words or not,
taken as JSON objects, listed or numbered form fields, with id and _destroy
on update) and its statuses, each with their own endpoints; the v1 API is
the same filters seen keyword by keyword. Every status a persona reads
carries the filters it matches in `filtered` (a boost as what it boosts),
matched as Mastodon matches: warning, title, text, poll options and media
descriptions. Clients apply context and action. Filters never federate, and
go with a deleted persona.

thepraandClaude Opus 5.5 ce473f2741 Follow requests asked again, and followed accounts found by name
A server can take a Follow with 202 and drop it afterwards, as Pleroma does
while it cannot fetch our actor; the request then stayed pending for good.
Following again now sends an unanswered request once more, the same
activity, at most once an hour (a delivery's `again` key).

accounts/search takes following=true: only accounts the persona follows,
by the start of their name, display name or server, never resolved; a
client fills a list with it. "already take" becomes "already taken".

thepraandClaude Opus 5.5 0614bdcf18 Lists: a persona's followed accounts, read apart
Mastodon's lists replace the empty stubs: CRUD, members (only accounts the
persona follows; a follow that ends takes its memberships with it),
accounts/:id/lists, and timelines/list/:id from the persona's home entries
with the replies policy (followed, list, none; self-replies and replies to
the persona always). An exclusive list's members stay out of home. Lists
never federate, and go with a deleted persona.

thepraandClaude Opus 5.5 2cd75176a4 One sign-in for decePubClient: the root JWT exchanged for a persona's token
The first-party client signs in on /clientapi and exchanges that JWT on
/oauth/token (RFC 8693, subject_token_type jwt, avatar_id) for one
persona's Mastodon token. Only the seeded public application `decepub`
holds the grant; RootJwtSubjectToken validates the JWT through RootJwt,
which JwtBearer now shares (signature, lifetime, ban, deletion, session
stamp). The issued token names the avatar, never the root.

Owner decision recorded in ROADMAP; it supersedes "moving decePubClient
onto the Mastodon API is out of scope".

thepraandClaude Opus 5.5 8f25bf056d Everything on, phase 4a: one answer everywhere for counts, search, collections and the instance API
Owner decision 2026-10-04: fix the mismatches and every other mismatch of the same kind.

- One counting rule (Domain/Privacy/Counted), Mastodon's. It is used for a persona's statuses_count, its outbox
  totalItems, NodeInfo localPosts and the instance status_count, which used to count four different things. It
  counts every post that is neither deleted nor a DM, boosts included, and circle and located posts too (owner
  decision). A group's count includes its remote members' posts.
- Users. Personas of banned or deleted roots no longer count, and are not found in search. NodeInfo now gives
  activeMonth and activeHalfyear, and the v2 instance gives active_month instead of a constant 0.
- replies_count counts only public and unlisted replies, so it no longer tells anyone that a private reply exists.
  Migration _012 recounts it.
- A remote account that deletes itself takes everything out of every count (GoneActors): its likes, downvotes,
  reactions and poll votes go and their counters come back, as do its boosts', replies' and quotes' counts, and its
  notifications. Lookups, account lists, search and favourited_by no longer show it. Migration _012 applies this to
  accounts already gone.
- Deleting a post also deletes its pins and the local boosts of it.
- /stalking gives the same total as following_count. Members are still never listed, and hide_collections is now
  always true, since the setting never did anything.
- Joining a community by invitation is following it, so /flock and /groupies agree; leaving unfollows.
- Search. Anyone may search, as on Mastodon; resolve and offset need a sign-in, offset pages, and deleted accounts
  are never found.
- notifications/unread_count counts what the list shows, and the owner's follower and following lists page with
  Link.
- The instance API advertises what is enforced:
  - max_characters, now enforced with a 422;
  - max_pinned_statuses = MaxPins;
  - the media types and limits MediaService and MediaOptions accept;
  - PollService's limits;
  - the configured languages;
  - no streaming URL until streaming exists.

  domain_count counts the servers we have exchanged with; which ones stays unpublished (peers is empty).
- Routes Mastodon answers now answer instead of 404:
  - directory, tags/{name}, timelines/link and identity_proofs;
  - instance/languages, translation_languages, domain_blocks and privacy_policy;
  - the v1 and v2 notification policy, and notification requests.

Also, from phase 3: a recovered password ends /clientapi sessions through a per-root SessionStamp claim instead of
comparing the JWT's whole-second nbf with the change time. That comparison let a token issued in the same second
survive, which made a test flaky.

671 tests pass.

thepraandClaude Opus 5.5 8c2eba6cbb Everything on, phase 3: sign-in and recovery tell nothing, recovered passwords end sessions, deleted roots are gone everywhere
Owner decision 2026-10-04: fix the account privacy findings.

- Sign-in. Every failure answers "That username and password do not match." after the same work: an unknown login
  is hashed against a decoy, and the comparison is constant-time. "Banned" is told only to someone who gave the right
  password. This covers /clientapi/user/login, /invitation/login and /oauth/login.
- Recovery.
  - Every request answers the same sentence and queues a SendRecovery job, whether or not the account exists or has an
    email. The lookup, the code and SMTP move to RecoveryJob, so neither the answer nor its timing says anything.
  - Codes are kept only as a SHA-256 hash, for one hour. Migration _011 drops the plaintext ones, which never expired.
  - A recovered password ends every session of the root. RootSessions sets CredentialsChangedAt, which JwtEvents
    checks against the JWT's issue time, now stamped as nbf, and revokes each persona's OAuth tokens and authorizations.
- Deleting a root (RootRemoval: the admin route, or the restored self-delete at /clientapi/user/delete, which asks for
  the password).
  - Its sessions end.
  - Each persona and each group it owns sends Delete{Actor} to its followers, its members and the accounts it follows.
  - The personas' posts are emptied.
  - /peasants/{name} answers 410 with a Tombstone (formerType Person or Group), as do its inbox and WebFinger, through
    LocalActorService.Gone. The names stay reserved.
  - The root keeps only a unique `deleted-{id}` name; the second deletion on an instance used to collide on
    "Deleted user".

Also, from phase 2's pasture: GoToSocial files a circle post like a DM and shows it only to accounts it mentions. Each
member's copy, and a member's refetch, now also mentions that member silently. The GoToSocial scenario checks circle
posts in conversations, like DMs, and they pass there now, as on Mastodon.

657 tests pass.

thepraandClaude Opus 5.5 5f56681c01 Everything on, phase 1: geolocation fetches itself, the deploy signs in as @thepra, the crawler is on, sign-up by invitation
Build / Build (push) Successful in 5m1s
Deploy / privapub.thepra.dev (push) Successful in 5m39s
Owner decisions (2026-10-04, recorded in docs/ROADMAP.md): production runs everything that is built, and nothing waits
on a person running a command.

- Geolocation updates itself. GeoUpdater, a hosted service, checks daily whether each DB-IP Lite database was built this
  month. If not, it fetches this month's, or last month's early in the month. It installs a file only once it opens as
  the right kind of database, then swaps it in atomically, and the locator reloads at once. Lookups now run under the
  lock, so a reload can no longer dispose a reader mid-lookup. The systemd timer, its script and their setup.sh lines
  are gone: the root step they needed never happened, and none is needed now. /stargazing names the database in use.
- The admin CLI runs after the app is built, with every service and nothing started.
  - `create-root <login> [--admin]` takes the password on stdin; it is how the first login is made while sign-up is
    closed.
  - `smoke <persona>` keeps the root `deploy-smoke` and an undiscoverable persona, and gives the root a new password
    on every run.
- The deploy signs in as @thepra. It runs the CLI, gets a token through the real OAuth flow (tools/smoke/oauth.sh,
  moved out of the pasture's privapub_token, which now uses it), checks the signed-in API and that @thepra is
  undiscoverable, then revokes the token. PRIVAPUB_SMOKE_TOKEN is gone.
- The deploy also fails when:
  - NodeInfo and the instance API disagree about registrations;
  - /stargazing does not say the crawler is on;
  - the geolocation databases are missing or more than 40 days old.
- The crawler is on in production, seeded with ten large servers of different kinds. FEDERATION.md now describes it
  and how to opt out.
- One registrations switch (Registrations:Mode, default Invitations; Open in tests and the pasture). It is read by
  open sign-up (403 when closed), NodeInfo `openRegistrations`, and v1 and v2 of the instance API, so they can no longer
  disagree. Before, NodeInfo said open and the instance API said closed. Group invitations always work, so
  invites_enabled is true.
- A persona edit through /clientapi no longer resets what the Mastodon API set (discoverable, locked, quote policy…):
  the theme is merged into the settings instead of replacing them.

650 tests pass. The deploy's smoke step was rehearsed against the pasture's PrivaPub.

thepraandClaude Opus 5.5 2645dea26f T8: inbox gaps, jobs, migrations and pages; a deleted remote account's posts are hidden
Owner decision (2026-10-03, "A remote account deletes itself"): its posts are kept but
hidden everywhere.
- Post.AuthorGone (additive bool). DeleteHandler's actor-delete branch sets it on every
  post whose ActorURI is the actor (one update-many), besides dropping its follows and
  timeline rows as before. RemotePosts.Build sets it on a post stored later for an
  account already marked Deleted.
- One rule in VisibilityPolicy: IsShown (not deleted, author not gone), IsPublic and
  CanSee exclude AuthorGone, plus Shown(post) for loaded posts.
- Lookups by id answer 404 through CanSee (statuses/:id and every sub-route, context,
  bookmarks, favourites, polls, reactions, search); provenance, account statuses,
  home/public/tag timelines, notifications, conversations, reblogged_by, the clientapi
  home and post/DM lists, a community's outbox and our Announces filter on IsShown or
  IsPublic; the Mastodon mapper never renders a hidden post or a boost of one.

Tests (30 new):
- AuthorGoneTests: the rule, the handler (posts kept, boosts included, follows and rows
  gone), a post fetched after the delete, and 20 Mastodon/ActivityPub lookups over HTTP
  seen before and hidden after.
- InboxGapTests: actor Update refresh (name, sanitised summary, key rotation in place
  and to a new key id) even with an older `updated`; Undo{Follow} by activity id and by
  object; Reject of our QuoteRequest (and a stranger's ignored); group-wrapped
  Announce{Like} and Announce{Undo{Like}}; a locked persona's pending follow,
  FollowRequest notification, and Decide accepting and rejecting with the original Follow.
- JobHandlerTests: AncestorsJobHandler up to its depth limit; PollRefreshJob and
  PollCloseJob (local and remote polls); InstanceDescriber from a peer's NodeInfo and
  the weekly dedupe through ObjectRecords; LinkPreviews for public posts only;
  DeliveryJobHandler outcomes (2xx, 404/410, 429/503 with Retry-After in seconds and as
  a date, 5xx) and a signature and Digest the peer can verify; MediaJanitor.Sweep;
  OAuthPruner.Prune.
- MigrationTests: _003, _004, _006 and _007 on seeded rows.
- PublicPagesTests: /@user and /@user/{id} (visibility, junk ids, exact CSP,
  Referrer-Policy and nosniff), circle 404, community page, the instance actor,
  ActivityPub redirects, and markup escaped in posts, titles and bios.

Production changes besides the rule:
- LinkPreviews.Handle re-checks that a post is still shown and public (the rule
  Wanted applies) before fetching anything; before, only enqueueing checked it.
- The legacy /clientapi post and DM lists no longer return soft-deleted posts.
- MediaJanitor.Sweep and OAuthPruner.Prune are the loop bodies, now public and tested.
- InstanceDescriber.Address: a protected virtual identity seam so a test can point
  the https NodeInfo addresses at a plain-http peer; production behaviour unchanged.

thepraandClaude Opus 5.5 c5e4934ba6 T5: OAuth and the client API over HTTP
96 integration tests through PrivaPubHost, the real pipeline end to end:
- OAuth: the token's subject is the persona, and neither the token response,
  verify_credentials nor the stored token entries name the root. A wrong password shows
  an error and sets no login cookie; a login without the antiforgery token is a 400; the
  return address never leaves the site; deny answers access_denied with no code; another
  root's persona re-renders the choice with no code; a banned root is sent back to the
  login and a code issued before the ban buys no token; force_login asks again; a code
  works once and its reuse revokes the token it bought; password and refresh_token
  grants are refused; a client_credentials token gets 401 on user routes; a read-only
  token gets 403 with a Mastodon error on POST /api/v1/statuses; follow covers
  read:follows; revoke works; the login and authorize pages send their CSP and no-store;
  the 11th /oauth/login from one address in a minute is a 429.
- Accounts: sign-up, duplicates in any case, invalid models answer 400 with a message,
  login and logout, recovery email, settings, password change, invitation sign-up and
  login (refusing a persona named after the login), recovery without an email, through
  an unreachable mail server, with a wrong and with a valid code, token refresh, the 11th
  sign-up from one address, expired, garbage and foreign-key JWTs.
- Personas: a rootId in the body is ignored, the username regex and reserved names hold,
  personas and groups share ReservedName, an update delivers Update{Person} to followers,
  PublishedOn and the id's day fall within two weeks before creation, the list holds only
  one's own personas, another root's persona cannot be updated.
- Groups: communities and circles are created, joining takes the code and the password,
  members leave and owners cannot, a remote follow request becomes a member only on
  approval, a circle never shows in lookup, account by id, v2 search or /@name, and its
  /flock and /wardens answer 404 unsigned and to non-members, 200 to a member's signed GET.
- Moderation (Exclusive, it suspends localhost): ban, unban and remove; non-admins get
  403; reports are listed without the reporter and resolved; domain blocks are inserted,
  listed and deleted, bad domains refused, and a suspended server's delivery is answered
  202 and kept nowhere; the data endpoints.
- AdminCommands: exit codes 0, 1 and 2 and the resulting policies.

Fixed:
- A banned or removed root kept using /clientapi with its JWT until it expired: only /api
  re-checked the root. JwtEvents.TokenValidated now loads the root and fails the request
  when it is banned or deleted, and takes the policy claims from the database, so a
  demoted admin loses admin at once (and a promoted one gains it).
- The 401 and 403 bodies JwtEvents writes were PascalCase while every other /clientapi
  answer is camelCase; they now use the web defaults.
- /clientapi/user/sniff/again (token refresh) answered an empty 200; it now answers a
  fresh JwtUser, like login.
- Password recovery answered SMTP reply codes as HTTP statuses (421, 454, 554, and 550 for
  an invalid address); a mail server failure is now 503 and an invalid address 400.

Build / Build (push) Successful in 2m24s

NeverFiveHundredTests walks every endpoint the server maps and fills each route parameter
with junk ('x', zeroed and random ObjectIds, a dot-dot segment, 5000 characters). It calls
each one anonymously, as a persona, and with a junk token, and asserts that nothing
answers 5xx or throws, and that every /api error carries a Mastodon error body.

It found two bugs:
- A junk 'Authorization: Bearer' on any non-/api route, anonymous ones included
  (/build.json, /peasants/*, inboxes), broke the response. JwtEvents.AuthenticationFailed
  wrote a body during authentication and the endpoint then wrote its own. The 401 body now

  that leaves without a body Mastodon's {"error": ...}.

thepraandClaude Opus 5.5 a5d9a89445 Communities follow FEP-1b12, circles federate to their members only
Communities:
- a post addressed to a community (to, cc or audience) is accepted
  according to its posting policy - followers, anyone, or moderators -
  and GroupDistributor announces the whole activity with `audience` to
  the community's followers, plus the object for new posts so Mastodon
  shows them; updates and deletes of community content are announced too;
- top-level posts are Pages with a name (the title, or a headline from
  the text); /flock counts members, /wardens lists moderators;
- a Mastodon client posts into a community by mentioning it, or into a
  remote group, which sets `audience`;
- an Announce of an activity from a remote group a persona follows (Lemmy)
  is followed through: the object is fetched from its own origin, kept with
  its AudienceURI, and fanned out to the group's local followers; updates
  are applied in place and deletes checked against the origin.

Circles stop being local-only: an undiscoverable Group actor whose follows
are all requests the owner approves; posts addressed to the circle and its
/flock and delivered to members' own inboxes, never announced, never
public; a remote member's post into the circle is accepted from members
only. SignedFetchAuthorizer serves circle posts and collections only to a
signed request from a member or a member server's instance actor - 404 for
anyone else. Circles never surface in search, lookups, mentions, account
ids or profile pages.

Federation:SecureMode requires a valid signature on every GET under
/peasants except the instance actor. Group forms take a posting policy.

thepraandClaude Opus 5.5 c00865d805 Located posts: local only, rounded, matched against their own radius
A post given a latitude and longitude becomes LocalGeo: its position is
rounded to two decimals (about a kilometre) and stored as a 2dsphere
point, its radius clamped to 1-50 km, and it is local only - no Create,
no delivery, no outbox, never in the Mastodon API or on a profile page.
/clientapi/post/nearby takes the viewer's position for the query only
(it is neither stored nor logged), runs $geoNear and keeps posts within
each post's own radius, minus authors the viewer blocks or mutes. A
located post cannot be direct or in a group.

thepraandClaude Opus 5.5 b54cdf78b2 One StatusService behind both client APIs, with outbound likes and boosts
Domain/Statuses/StatusService takes a persona, not a root, and is what
/clientapi and the Mastodon API share:
- Publish renders Markdown (clientapi) or plain text (Mastodon clients),
  checks the persona may see the post it replies to, opens or reuses the
  conversation for a direct post from its recipients and mentions, fans
  out and hands the Create to the outbox;
- Edit keeps a revision and sends Update{Note}; Remove soft-deletes and
  returns the post, so a client can delete and redraft;
- Favourite and Reblog work on anything the persona can see and send Like,
  Announce and their Undo to the author (and, for boosts, to followers);
  boosts are refused for anything but public and unlisted posts.

PostsService is now the clientapi wrapper that checks the root owns the
persona. A persona's own boost is a local row: the outbox renders it as
Announce, /grunts/announce-{id} resolves, and object endpoints, profile
pages and NodeInfo skip it. ContentFormat gains Plain.

thepraandClaude Opus 5.5 4d9be37c1c Mastodon clients can sign in: OAuth with a persona per token
OpenIddict 7.7 (MongoDB stores, keys kept in Mongo so tokens survive
restarts) serves /oauth/authorize, /oauth/token, /oauth/revoke and the
discovery documents, including /.well-known/oauth-authorization-server:
- authorization code (PKCE optional) and client credentials, Mastodon's
  scopes including the granular ones, non-expiring reference tokens,
  `created_at` in the token response, and the urn:ietf:wg:oauth:2.0:oob
  page that shows the code;
- /oauth/login signs the private login into a fifteen-minute cookie that
  only /oauth sees (rate limited, antiforgery-protected); /oauth/authorize
  then asks which persona the application acts as. The token's subject
  is that persona's id and nothing else; no root id reaches a token, an
  authorization or a log line;
- the token exchange refuses a persona whose login is banned or deleted,
  and every API request checks the same.

/api/v1/apps registers applications dynamically, /api/v1/apps/
verify_credentials, /api/v1/instance (v1 and v2, "4.2.0 (compatible;
PrivaPub)") and verify_credentials answer in Mastodon's shapes: snake_case
with explicit nulls, Rails-style parameters from query, form or JSON,
{"error": ...} on failure, Link paging. CORS exposes Link.

/api goes to OpenIddict validation and everything else to the existing
JWT; the JWT failure handler no longer sends the exception and stack trace
to the client.

thepraandClaude Opus 5.5 e99b76dbd7 Home timelines, mention notifications, and threads that fetch their parents
Fanout writes a TimelineEntry for every persona a post should reach: the
author, local followers of a local author, local followers of a remote one,
the members of a direct conversation or a circle. Mastodon's home rules
apply when it is written: a reply shows only to followers of both sides
(or to the one replied to), a reblog only where reblogs are wanted. A
mention of a local persona becomes a Mention notification.

Inbound posts are now also kept when a persona follows their author.

RemotePosts holds what CreateHandler and backfill share: building a Post
from a note, and fetching a public parent the first time a reply to it
arrives, so its author is known (a reply to an unknown or non-public
parent stays out of home timelines). Each fetched ancestor queues a
FetchAncestors job for the next one, up to ten deep.

/clientapi/timeline/home and /clientapi/notifications (with
/notifications/read) page by max_id for the persona's own root only.

thepraandClaude Opus 5.5 a76cc34557 Posts reach their audience, edits follow them, deletes leave a tombstone
OutboxPublisher works out who a post goes to, Mastodon's way: followers'
shared inboxes for public, unlisted and followers-only; every mentioned
remote account's own inbox; the recipients only for direct; the parent's
author for a reply; a community's followers for a post in it; nobody for
a circle. Creates, updates and deletes all use it.

- Local posts take a visibility (public, unlisted, followers-only) and a
  spoiler text next to the content-warning flag.
- /clientapi/post/update keeps the previous version as a revision,
  re-renders, and sends Update{Note} with `updated` to the same to/cc.
- Deleting is now soft: the content, title, spoiler, media and revisions
  are cleared, timeline entries removed, the parent's reply count goes
  down, Delete goes to the stored audience, and the object answers 410
  with a Tombstone instead of 404.
- Editing a persona's profile sends Update{Person} to its followers.

thepraandClaude Opus 5.5 e54e17708f Outbound documents speak Mastodon's dialect under PrivaPub's route names
Local text (Domain/Content/ContentRenderer): Markdig with raw HTML off and
autolinks, or plain text for API clients; then @user and @user@host are
resolved (locally or through WebFinger) into Mastodon's h-card markup and
#tags into hashtag links, skipping code, links and e-mail addresses. A
post stores the result, its mentions and its tags, and is delivered to
the mentioned actors and the parent's author as well as to followers.

Renderer:
- Mastodon's @context (toot, schema PropertyValue, discoverable,
  indexable, blurhash, focalPoint, featured, alsoKnownAs, movedTo) and
  FEP-2c59's webfinger;
- an actor's url is its HTML page, its fields are PropertyValue
  attachments, published is cut to the day and indexable is false;
- a note's content is the stored rendering; a title becomes name and a
  bold first line, a content warning without its own text is summarised
  by the title or "Content warning"; Mention and Hashtag tags, contentMap,
  updated, and to/cc by visibility.

Routes take the agreed names: /groupies, /stalking, /scribbles/{id},
/grunts/{id} (a Create resolves), /whispers/{id} for a DM's context. The
outbox is a collection with a first page, paged by max_id. A browser
asking for an actor or a note is redirected to /@user, and WebFinger's
profile-page points there.

thepraandClaude Opus 5.5 e9529310fe One Post model for every visibility, read from notes the way peers write them
Post gains what federation and the Mastodon API need: Visibility (Public,
Unlisted, FollowersOnly, Direct, Circle, LocalGeo), the author's account
id, to/cc, the Create's id, url, context, quote, InReplyToURI and the
parent's author, a separate SpoilerText next to the title, language,
mentions, hashtags, remote attachments (alt text, blurhash, focus, size),
reply/favourite/reblog counters, revisions, EditedAt and DeletedAt.

Direct messages are Posts with Visibility Direct and a ConversationId;
migration _005 copies DmPost rows across with their ids and fills the new
fields of existing posts. DmPost is left in place so a rollback still sees
the old messages.

Inbound:
- NoteParser reads Note, Article, Page, Question and media types: content,
  then contentMap, then _misskey_content; summary as the spoiler and name
  as the title; Mention and Hashtag tags; attachments; a PeerTube-style
  list attribution prefers the person over the channel; quote URIs.
- Addressing classifies like Mastodon, finding followers-only by the
  author's own followers URL (now stored on ForeignAvatar), not by a
  "/followers" suffix.
- Create keeps a post when a local persona is addressed or mentioned, when
  it replies to a local post (the parent's reply count goes up) or when a
  community it follows is addressed; an unsolicited public post is not
  stored. Update keeps the previous version as a revision.

The outbox and object endpoints serve only Public and Unlisted posts.

  origin (the keyId's) a bucket of 300 that refills at 300 a minute, and

- deploy.yml dumps the PrivaPub database to /var/backups before it stops
  the service (the last seven are kept), and after the swap checks that
  Swagger answers 404 and that the shared inbox answers junk with 400 and
  an unsigned activity with 401.
- ActivityPubClient and PostBoost, never used, are gone.

thepraandClaude Opus 5.5 d2f0c7a14e Unique indexes, one username space, and entity maps warmed before use
Infrastructure/Data/Indexes runs at every start, after the migrations:
unique on Post/DmPost ObjectURI, ForeignAvatar ActorURI, the Follower
triple, RootToAvatar, RootUser UserName and ReservedName; plain indexes on
the lookups the services actually make (PublicKeyId, author and group
post listings, ParticipantsKey, the delivery queue).

Migration _001 runs first and removes the duplicates the races could
already have left (keeping the newest actor row, the oldest post, the
accepted follower), then fills ReservedName from every avatar and group.

ReservedName is one username space for personas, groups and the instance:
a name is reserved by an insert the unique index arbitrates, before the
avatar or group is saved, so two simultaneous sign-ups cannot both get it.
A short list of names (admin, support, abuse, postmaster, ...) is never
available.

EntityMaps.Warm touches every entity's collection one at a time before
anything else runs. MongoDB.Entities maps the Entity base class on first
touch, and two types mapped at once throw "An item with the same key has
already been added" and stay broken for the life of the process; the
parallel test run hit it, and the delivery worker racing a request could
have too.

- every service and controller answers "Something went wrong." where it

- sign-up and login no longer log the IP, User-Agent and root id together;
- invitation sign-up takes the persona's own AvatarUserName (and optional
  AvatarName) instead of naming the avatar after the private login, and
  refuses a persona username equal to the login's. Invitation login uses
  the named persona, creating it if it is new;
- recovery mail comes from "PrivaPub", not collAnon's support address name.

thepraandClaude Opus 5.5 2eb2a63f1e Conversations are keyed by who is in them, and circles stay home
S8: a direct message joins a conversation only when its participants are
exactly that conversation's members, found through a new
DmGroup.ParticipantsKey (a hash of the sorted members). A remote context
no longer decides anything: it let anyone who knew a conversation's
context post into it, and joining by context while dropping a participant
would have shown a reply to someone it was not addressed to. A context is
kept only when it is on the author's origin. Sending a DM to the same
people again reuses their conversation instead of opening a new one.

S9: Group.Kind is Circle or Community. A circle is not a federated actor:
its actor, collections, WebFinger and inbox answer 404, a remote Follow is
refused, and posts in it are IsLocalOnly - never delivered, never in an
outbox, never served. Communities keep today's behaviour until P4.
Migration _003 makes every existing group a circle, marks their posts
local-only and backfills the conversation keys.

End-to-end inbox tests sign real deliveries from a fake peer: a context
injection, a forged activity id, a note attributed to someone else, a
cross-origin object, a bad signature, junk bodies and a Follow of a circle.

thepraandClaude Opus 5.5 bf7c88ce71 Remote HTML is sanitized before it is stored
S5 of the roadmap. ContentSanitizer wraps HtmlSanitizer with Mastodon's
allowlist: the inline and list tags Mastodon keeps, href/rel/class and
the list attributes, microformat and mention/hashtag/ellipsis/invisible
classes, Mastodon's link schemes, every link rel=nofollow noopener
noreferrer, relative links unlinked, headings folded to a bold paragraph,
and the contents of script, style, svg, iframe and friends dropped rather
than kept as text.

Post and DmPost gain ContentHtml (what is shown) and ContentFormat
(Markdown for local, Html for remote). Inbound Create and Update, and a
remote actor's biography, are sanitized on the way in; local posts store
their Markdig rendering. Migration _002 does the same to what is already
stored, and migrations now run at startup.

thepraandClaude Opus 5.5 a060204dd6 A remote actor is believed only from its own origin
S1 and S2 of the roadmap. RemoteActorService:
- FetchObject accepts a document only when its id is the address it was
  served from; a same-origin document naming another address is asked for
  at that address once (how GoToSocial serves its key URIs), anything else
  is dropped;
- GetActorByKeyId accepts a key only when the actor lists it, its owner is
  the actor and it lives on the actor's origin, whether the keyId points at
  the actor or at a key document;
- a refetch for a key or an actor happens at most once per five minutes,
  so a bad signature cannot make us hammer a host;
- the cache row is written by one atomic upsert on ActorURI;
- every fetch is signed by the instance actor, never by the persona that
  happened to receive the activity.

The inbox refuses an activity whose id is not on its actor's origin, and
an Undo of someone else's activity; a Create's object, an Update and a
Delete must be on the actor's origin too, and a cross-origin object is
refetched from its own origin before it is trusted.

Tests: a fake peer on two origins serves forged actors, foreign-owned keys,
cross-origin key documents, aliases and a GoToSocial-style key address
(integration, PRIVAPUB_TEST_MONGOD=1).

The tree had not compiled since its first commit: Group, DmGroup and
IGroupUsersService were referenced and never written, an IDE rename had
turned the user-settings DTO into the ViewAvatarServer enum, and the settings
were saved as an entity they no longer were.

Built now:
- Group (an ActivityPub Group actor with its own keys, members, invitation
  code and optional password) and DmGroup (a conversation), with
  /clientapi/group/{list,insert,update,join,leave,approve}.
- Posts and DMs: /clientapi/post/{list,insert,delete}, /clientapi/dm/{list,insert};
  DM recipients are local usernames or user@host handles resolved by WebFinger.
- Invitation sign-up and login against the group's invitation code, checking
  the password before any account is created.
- Federation: WebFinger, NodeInfo 2.0, actors at /peasants/{name} (Person,
  Group, and an Application instance actor) with SPKI keys, draft-cavage
  RSA-SHA256 HTTP signatures both ways, an inbox handling Follow (+Accept),
  Undo, Create, Delete and Update, an outbox, notes at /posts/{id}, and a
  persisted, retried, signed delivery queue. A post to a group is announced
  by the group to its followers (FEP-1b12).
- The unused, broken typed ActivityPub models are replaced by a renderer;
  NSign's HMAC setup, which could not federate, is gone.

Upgrade: net10.0, MongoDB.Entities 25.1 (instance DB API, Standard GUIDs),
Swashbuckle 10 / OpenApi 2, Serilog.AspNetCore 10, MailKit 4.18,
PasswordGenerator 3. The JWT keys are 64 bytes (IdentityModel 8 refuses
shorter for HS512). Production runs its own mongod on 127.0.0.1:27022, as
Sintopia's apps do, and deploys to privapub.thepra.dev from the build runner.
