The name in quotes, copy buttons, and every translation rewritten in plain words
- The name is now always written in quotation marks, each language with its own: “me-web?”, «me-web?», „me-web?“, « me-web? », 「me-web?」. Without them the question mark read as the end of a sentence. In Arabic, Hebrew and the other right-to-left languages the question mark no longer jumps to the wrong side of the name.
- Your addresses, your router, your network, the reverse name, the route and the code of a submission you sent now sit in a small box with a copy button, ready to paste into a message to your provider or anywhere else.
- Every translation except English and Italian was rewritten for people who are not technical: everyday words first, the technical term in brackets, and one word for one thing across the whole app. They are still machine drafts; "Suggest a correction" is welcome in any language.
- A few lines are plainer in English and Italian too: the test servers for calls, and the server in the middle that carries a call when two homes can't connect directly.

Provider notes from shared checks, and the internet seen from eight places
- Notes on providers in any country: findings people choose to share are counted on the publisher's server, one
vote per network. A total appears on the provider card only after a person has reviewed it, and only when at
least five different networks of that provider agree four times in five; the card says how many agree.
Notes researched by hand still come first, and on mobile data the totals for the mobile network replace the
notes about home lines. - "Connected to the internet through" now comes from eight RouteViews collectors (Oregon, Ashburn, London,
Sao Paulo, Johannesburg, Dubai, Singapore, Sydney) instead of one in Oregon, each counting the same, so
networks far from the United States are described from nearby. A network that only exchanges traffic with a
collector's neighbour is no longer listed as one of its upstreams. - Ready for measuring servers outside Europe: once the publisher adds one, the app times each server and runs
the speed test and the test from outside against the closest. None exists yet, so nothing changes today. - When me-web? has no notes on a provider, it says that findings shared at the end of a check help write them.
- The privacy page states the rule for publishing totals.

The cards no longer contradict each other
- From the publisher's own network, the tests aimed at its server stay inside the house, so
the type of address translation, the ports, the hairpin, how long a connection stays open,
the speed and the round trip described the home network: a report said "hard NAT" next to
"ports kept". These cards now say the test can't run there, and those messages are not sent. - Who holds your public IPv4 address is now decided by the same evidence as the address
sharing card, so a home router behind a provider's shared address no longer reads "your
router" on one card and "shared with other customers" on the next. - When your connection differs from what the provider notes say is usual (a shared address,
port 25), the provider card adds "On this line" with what was found, right under the note.

Findings are offered for sharing once the last measurement is in
- The offer to share now appears when the two-minute test of how long an unused connection
stays open has finished, so a shared report carries its answer instead of "measuring". - Starting a new check while that test is still running no longer lets its late answer
land on the new check's card.

The route from the server back to you arrives
- With the test from outside, the route from the publisher's server back to your address
came back empty: the trace program holds its output until it ends, and it was stopped
first while waiting on routers that never answer. It now reports each router as soon as it
answers and stops after three silent ones, so the routers in front of your provider's exit
reach the app.

The provider card no longer shows the address block's registry country
- "Iliad Italia (AS29447, FR)" read as if the line were French: the country in the
provider map is where the address block was registered, not where you are.
The shared exit measured, the route from the server, the network's upstreams
- Behind your provider's shared address, me-web? now shows how its exit hands out ports
(kept, one after another, from one block, or at random), the range it gave this device,
and how many customers may share the address at most; the estimate sharpens with each
check on the same address. - It tests whether two devices behind the same address can reach each other (hairpin), and
how long an unused connection stays open: the card says "measuring" for about two minutes
after the check, then the answer. - With the test from outside, the publisher's server also traces the route back to your
address: your provider's routers and the networks in between appear on the path, with
their names. - The provider card says which networks your provider reaches the internet through.
- On mobile data, the path shows the operator and the type of network (5G, 4G) read from the
phone; on Android 13 and later the phone asks once for permission to read the network type. - The speed card adds the round trip to the publisher's server.
- The network data now comes from the publisher's server, refreshed there from open sources:
iptoasn.com, DB-IP Lite (CC BY 4.0), the University of Oregon Route Views Project (CC BY 4.0)
and the Android Open Source Project's list of mobile operators (Apache 2.0); the release
notes list each source's date and checksum. - Source links in the cards wrap instead of being cut off.
- New strings, drafted in every language.

No network failure takes the app down; mobile data read right; the route on the path
- Every network call returns a result whatever fails, not only the exceptions .NET
usually throws: on Android the HTTPS client is the platform's own stack, and a network
switch mid-request throws others. The outside test as a whole cannot throw; sharing the
link falls back to copying it. A last guard (the UI thread, unobserved tasks, Android's
raiser) writes errors.log in the app folder and keeps the app running; nothing is sent. - On mobile data the app no longer probes the operator's gateway as if it were a home
router: the router card says there is none, a private address on the phone with another
public one is the operator's address sharing (CGNAT) and is drawn as its shared exit, the
public IPv4 is held by that exit, and the provider's notes are labelled as being about its
home lines. These were "router not answering" and "can't tell" on an Iliad phone. - The route's routers appear as stops on the path's wires: the operator's internal ones
before its exit, the public ones with their network number towards the internet. - The download speed is timed after the first quarter of the sample, once the connection
has ramped up; the path no longer shows the address block's registry country. - Two new strings, drafted in every language.

- Sharing is offered as soon as the check ends. In 0.2 and 0.3 the offer to share your findings only appeared after you answered "Test from outside?", so scrolling past that question meant no offer at all.
- An Android icon that fits. The launcher icon is now an adaptive icon that every launcher shape (circle, squircle, hexagon) can crop without cutting the drawing, with a single-colour version for themed icons. The splash screen uses the same drawing, sharp instead of blurred.
The Mac builds are still untested on a real Mac.

- The path, drawn. From this device to the internet, top to bottom in a zig-zag: this phone or computer, your router (or the mobile network), any shared exit of your provider, your provider, the internet. Each step is a larger drawing that pulses while it is checked, with a few details beside it: the device's model and address, the router's addresses inside and outside and which port-opening protocols answer, the provider's AS number, your public addresses. The link between device and router shows its kind and speed.
- Each check under its step. The results are grouped under the step they concern, in the path's order, with the same drawing as a heading. Tap a step in the path to jump to its checks.
- Status and "Check again" at the end, beside sharing, once a check has run.
- Memory is the device's RAM. On Android it showed the runtime's limit (0.1 GB); it now reads the real figure, labelled "Memory (RAM)". Free disk now shows on Android too.
- Two icons fixed that drew outside their box: the outside test's shield and the calls and games radio tower.
The Mac builds are still untested on a real Mac.

v0.2.0
Pre-Releasereleased this
2026-10-15 05:50:23 +02:00 | 21 commits to master since this releaseWhat's in 0.2.0 (the plan's phases two and three, shipped together):
- Only if you agree, a test from outside over IPv4 and IPv6: your router opens ports 80, 443 and one high port towards this device for ten minutes and closes them afterwards, and the server must get an answer only the app can give. Hairpin is tried from inside.
- The NAT type for calls and games, from two STUN servers.
- Sending mail: port 25, the reverse name (PTR) and five blocklists, asked through your own name server.
- Your name server (DNSSEC, made-up names), the speed against meweb.arasaka.software, and this device as a server.
- What you can host from here: a website, home from outside, family photos and files, a game or voice server, a fediverse or blog server, a mail server; each possible, possible with a named workaround, or can't tell.
- Sharing your findings after reading the exact JSON, deletable from the app at any time and deleted after twelve months: https://meweb.arasaka.software/privacy
- QR codes for the downloads.
- Every string in 111 languages; Nauruan and Palauan are still missing.
The Mac builds are attached but have not been tried on a Mac yet.
